Simultaneous performance made in Paris and in a Russian snowy forest. In collaboration with Polina Kanis and Lyudmila Zinchenko.
Performance based on the legend of Saint Denis walking with his head in his hands from Sacré-Coeur to the place where the Basilica of St. Denis now stands. It explores two modes of movement: straight-line travel in European culture (religious pilgrimage, scientific and artistic movement from point to point) and wandering in Russian tradition. It also draws a comparison between martyrdom — characteristic of saints in European tradition — and the fate of poets and artists in Russian history.
Two performers moved simultaneously, connected via laptops over the internet. The performer in Paris retraced the route of Saint Denis, sending live footage of Parisian streets to a Russian forest, while the performer in the snowy Russian forest held the laptop in front of her face — seeing the streets of Paris — and read poetry by Russian poets who were killed or persecuted by authorities.
